€7m in Bray Levies Unused Yet Badly Needed
13th February 2017

The people of Bray will be shocked to hear that there is €7 million in a County Council Bank Account to be spent on Roads and Community Projects in the Bray area and the money hasn't been spent.

This money comes from planning levies raised by Bray Town Council over many years. It is astounding then, that residents whose estates were surfaced with unacceptable materials last year, are being told by Council Management that there is no money to spend on putting a proper surface on their roads.

I believe that the work required to reconstruct the road surfaces and footpaths in many of our residential areas should be seen as capital works which improve the living amenity for all residents in the town not just the people who live in the houses.

It is also the case that these roads are legally public roads and therefore have the same status as main roads throughout the town which apparently can be included.

I am calling for flexibility from Council Management to allow this vital work to be done and if this flexibility is not forthcoming, I will be pressing for a complete review of the entire Capital Levies Scheme.
