I was born in 1959 and was raised and have lived all my life in Bray. I attended primary school at St. Kevin's C.B.S., Greystones and secondary school at St. Brendan's C.B.S., Woodbrook, Bray.

I trained as a primary school teacher in Carysfort College of Education, Blackrock. Having graduated in 1979, I spent most of my professional teaching career in St. Fergal's Senior N.S., Bray. I was school principal for a time in St. Joseph's N.S., Tivoli Rd, Dun Laoghaire and also in St. Fergal's Senior N.S., Bray. I worked as principal of the amalgamated St. Fergal's N.S. before retiring in November 2015 to devote myself fully to the role of public representative.

I am an Independent Member of Wicklow County Council, and I have served as a Public Representative since 1985. In that time, I have worked to represent many people in their dealings with local and national government. I have assisted local voluntary groups in their work in local communities and I have always spoken up for people who are in vulnerable situations.

I have consistently defended the right of older people to be treated with respect because that is the least they are entitled to after the enormous sacrifices and huge contribution they have made to the development of this country.

I have campaigned tirelessly for improved resources for children with special educational needs and for improvements in class size in primary and second level schools.

I have worked with many local people and community groups to develop community facilities including sports and recreation parks, libraries, playgrounds and public open spaces.

I am married to Agnes, from Ennis, Co. Clare. Agnes taught in St. Fergal's Senior N.S. for many years and was appointed principal of Ballintemple N.S., Ballycoog, Co. Wicklow in 2008. We have three adult children, Clare, Ciara and Mark, one of whom lives and works abroad, one living and working in Northern Ireland and one working in Dublin.

My interests include reading, music and sport.
