Fassaroe Rezoning

Fassaroe Fields of Gold
23rd November 2017

The proposed residential rezoning of hundreds of acres of land owned by Roadstone and Cosgraves in Old Fassaroe on the outskirts of Bray will mean hundreds of millions if not billions of euro in profits for both companies. They will become the “Fassaroe Fields of Gold” for these companies and their shareholders.

Rezoning some of this land is necessary to provide thousands of housing units for private and public housing but we must make sure that the project is not about enriching the already wealthy but achieving maximum gain for the community.

This means we must ensure that Roadstone and Cosgraves contribute a major part of their financial windfall to providing state-of-the-art community, sports and recreational facilities for the 10,000 residents of this new town as well as providing for the sports and recreational needs of the existing wider community in the Bray Municipal District including Bray, Kilmacanogue and Enniskerry.

The most important task for politicians now is to ensure that we will have plenty of land available to meet the community and recreational needs of the population of today and the future. This means zoning much more land for community, sporting and recreational uses than has already been included in the current Draft Development Plan. We must be more ambitious for the people’s welfare than just settling for what the developers want. We must put the needs of the entire community first every time and that is what I intend to do.

I trust I will be supported in this initiative by all public representatives.
